The key is NEVER breed an affected dog. The only way to accurately diagnose if a Cavalier has CM/ SM is by MRI scanning. It is estimated that:
* 95% of all Cavaliers have CM and of those 50% have SM (Rushbridge2003)
* Approximately 35% of affected dogs show clinical signs.
